very nice, very bright. Only thing is you can see the edges not as crisp as the center, but overall, really nice.

Star Gazer, August 06, 2009

I’m a backyard star gazer and I live in a light polluted area. I started out with some Nikon 8X40 glasses and I loved them. If I lived in a dark sky area I would have been satisfied. Once I figured out a good stabilization system and I wanted higher power glasses to see move from my light polluted back yard. The next glasses I got were Celestron 15X70 and I loved them too. I probably would have kept them, but there was a problem with the diopter. And I figured my stabilization system is good enough for a higher power, so I bought the Oberwerk Lightweight 20X80. I am thrilled these are the best quality and have the best optic coatings. These are the perfect glasses for me. Now I’m looking for darker sky locations to get the most out of my Oberwerks.

I hear a lot of talk about what size binoculars can be hand held. I can’t hold any binoculars very steady for very long. I could not hold the 8X40 still enough without some sort of stabilization, a tripod or bracing my body and arms on a fence. In my opinion you will need a tripod or some sort of stabilization system with these even though they are light weight. And when the glasses are stable, the image is wonderful.

Great product!, October 30, 2008

I just wanted to drop a note and tell you how happy my wife and I are with the quality - both optically and mechanically - of this great product. My reason for the purchase was for astro-viewing as a supplement to our telescopes (we've been using other brand binos for a long time), but since using them, we've found that they are our "first grab" for birding as well. The evening that they arrived, I stepped out on our back porch just as it got dark and took in a wonderful view of Jupiter and the 4 big moons. I called my wife our for a look and she was completely blown away! Neither of us expected such great performance for an relatively inexpensive pair of binos, especially at 20X. Color correction is excellent right out to the edge of the field, something I never expected form a relatively low cost pair of binoculars. We spent a great deal of time outside that night taking in the sights (we also had a telescope set up, though it didn't get much use that evening). I was especially impressed at how well the binos were able to pull in the light from M31 in our light polluted sky. One of our favorite viewing targets, M45, is especially impressive through this wonderful instrument.
Last night, I was at one of my "relatively dark, but at least it's a big sky" viewing sites about 2 miles from our home doing some astrophotography through my 80mm f/6 Stellarvue AT1010 telescope. When a young couple came by and asked what I was photographing, I pointed to the section of sky (once again, M45), but neither could see what I was talking about. I quickly set up the 20X80's on a tripod and got the target in view and gave them a peek... They were hooked! They hung out with me for about an hour - using the 20x80's the whole time. I'm pretty sure that they'll be Oberwerk owners in the very near future. Once again, thanks for an outstanding product at a great price.
